Ladies of the Coral

That’s how I would sum up our return to Rodrigues Island in October 2024.
Coming back to this remote corner of the Indian Ocean never disappoints.
The island remains as wild and pure as we remembered: few inhabitants, no commercial fishing, and a natural environment that makes you feel like you’ve entered another world.

Challenging Start: Battling the Elements

This time, however, the first two days put us to the test.
Weather conditions made fishing tough, with rough tides and a constant wind that showed no mercy.
But that’s the charm of this fishing trip—you never know what to expect, and each day brings a new challenge.

For those seeking a genuine fishing adventure, this is it.
Rodrigues Island tests your skills, patience, and determination, but the rewards are unforgettable.

Everything Changed Mid-Trip:

As the weather conditions improved, so did the fishing.
The first dogtooth tuna (doggies) started to appear, along with some impressive-sized GTs...
But without a doubt, the true stars of this expedition were the coral trouts.

Coral Trouts: The Explosive Queens of Rodrigues

Explosive, powerful, and astonishing.
We managed to catch over 20 coral trouts weighing more than 10 kg, with several approaching the 20 kg mark.
An absolute madness—the kind of fishing experience that leaves a lasting impression.

This fishing trip to Rodrigues Island was nothing short of epic, reaffirming its reputation as one of the best fishing destinations for those seeking thrilling catches.

A Battle Worth Returning For

"Sometimes it’s not the fish you’re looking for, but the one that finds you."
The strength of these creatures and the fight near the bottom put us to the test.
Every strike was a battle, and every cast was an opportunity to either lose it all or win the moment of your life.

That’s why we come back.

As an old friend used to say: "You don’t return for the fish you catch, but for the ones that get away."
And also for those that, when you finally bring them on board, leave you speechless.
